The first mass-produced moped in Romania was the one called Carpati. However, it was a copy of the German Simson SR2 mopeds, with a 68 cc 2-stroke engine that produced 3 hp and reached a maximum speed of 55 km/h, with a consumption of 1.8 l/100 km.

Carpati was built in the "6 Martie" Tohani factory in Zärnesti in two versions: Carpati (49 cc) and Carpati Super (68 cc), and the engines were made by METROM Brasov. The difference between the two versions Carpati and Carpati Super was quite fragile, this being in the external "bodywork", but also in the engine power. Carpati mopeds were manufactured between 1959 and 1967, with about 5000 copies being made. PEGAS bicycles were produced 1948 - 1990.
