PHILLIPS

Continental styling is rivalled in the Phillips Gadabout from Birmingham. A single, oval-section tube forms the main member of the spine-type frame. Front suspension is by telescopic fork. The two-speed engine-gear unit is slung below the frame member and final drive is by chain. The pedals can be used to start the engine or, with the clutch locked in the disengaged position, to propel the machine. Engine capacity is 49 cc.

Full-width hubs incorporating 4in-diameter brakes are specified. The mudguards are deeply valanced. Ignition and lighting arc by Bosch flywheel magneto and the specification includes an electric horn, number plates and licence holder.

Price.

£69 3s.

I'd no idea it was so easy to ride a PHILLIPS Gadabout ....

.. the MO-ped that offers you most - 180 Miles per gallon.

M2c

The Gadabout is unlike any other Mo-ped on the market. Its tubular frame

(not pressed construction) fully shock absorbing front forks, large size tyres,

and adjustable saddle position ensure that you are always comfortable, and at

ease with the machine. The design and specifications of the power unit, which

is specially manufactured for the Gadabout by a leading Continental manu-

facturer, has been selected after long study and practical testing of the best

examples and most advanced developments in Mo-ped engine practice. The

high power development by the compact little 49 c.c. engine (2·1 b.h.p. at 6,000

r.p.m.) as well as giving a useful turn of speed, ensures easy and flexible handling

in traffic, and will take you up the steepest hills without use of the pedals.

The engine can be started with the pedals whilst the machine is stationary,

and then driven away without pedalling. The road holding qualities of the

telescopic forks, tubular frame, and large section tyres, and internal expanding

hub brakes result in a degree of safety not previously attained with this type

of machine.

far and away the finest Mo-ped you can ride!

"Cycling and Mopeds'

Phillips have been acknowledged leaders in the moped field since mopeds first started to appear in this country. The original Phillips motorised bicycle was the first British moped, and many of these reliable little machines are still to be seen on the roads, continuing to give good and reliable service to their owners. Since then the "Panda" and the "Gadabout" have become familiar sights in all parts of the country, with reputations second to none. With a Phillips moped you have the satisfaction of owning a machine produced and designed by an organisation with a world-wide reputation in the production of fine machines. Every moped is individually road tested before leaving the factory, and Phillips appointed dealers are all fully qualified and equipped to deal with any repairs and servicing that may be needed.

Easy to buy ...

All Phillips mopeds are available on the easiest of easy terms, with payments from less than £1 per week. Your dealer will be happy to give you details.

Easy to ride ...

You will feel quite at home and confident on a Phillips moped in only a few minutes. It is as easy to ride as a bicycle--easier in fact, for the lively engine does all the work.

Easy to run ...

Road tax costs only 17/6 a year, and there is a special comprehensive insurance scheme available to owners of Phillips mopeds al very low rates. Petrol consumption of around 180 m.p.g. means that you can run a Phillips moped for only a few shillings a week-much cheaper even than going by bus.
